Central to Mary’s work is her use of colour and texture, which are employed to convey a range of experiences and emotions, inspired by music and the world which surrounds us the work is created intuitively: elements of chance and random order are happily incorporated into seemingly very controlled works.
The paintings are built up in layers over time with subtle shifts of tone/colour, employing techniques as seem necessary in the moment. The work is not static and is constantly evolving; paintings grow one from the other. Mary operates from her East London studio, and has exhibited regularly since 1985, mostly in London.
